Australia’s tourism industry is on the brink of collapse. A study conducted by Small Business Australia has predicted that some 2600 businesses are going out of business plus 40,000 jobs lost. Bill Lang has called for targeted funds to help the industry survive “There’s going to be no rebound in any sales while we’re not allowed to travel internationally and we continue to have the chaos of state borders being closed down stopping interstate tourism happening”.

International flight bans have seen most Australian travel businesses lose between 70 and 90% of their revenue. A national survey of travel agents found if the JobKeeper subsidy ends on April 1st, 90% of operators won’t have the means to survive. That equates to 40,000 jobs.
