In Sydney, there is an upcoming city election, council election. Now a number of small businesses won’t actually be able to go out and vote. Do we know why?

Bill Lang

You look the City of Sydney, it’s the biggest, you know, Council in Australia has a process whereby if you have a small business that’s in that area, you’re not automatically on what’s called the electoral roll. So you need to ensure that you’re on the roll. And at the moment, there could be several 1,000 that have recently moved in there in the last few years that haven’t actually put themselves on the roll. So they’ve got until June the 28th. So they’ve got you know, the next five or six days effectively to get to the City of Sydney website. So you got to see you know, the City of Sydney website, and they’ll find about the upcoming elections. And they need to basically register that they’re a business in the area, because there’s actually a small business party with candidates that will want to represent small business owners and if those owners don’t register and don’t vote, they may not end up with counsellors that understand what they need.
